The same can’t be said for Barry and Natalia’s chapter, which drags. It’s a single escape sequence that requires you to battle invisible enemies and work cooperatively against the clock, and while it’s not the most challenging of chapters, it begins and ends with a couple of big story moments that add to a sense of high stakes. Resident Evil has never been subtle - which is arguably part of its charm - but this is clumsy.įortunately, there’s a breathless pace to Moira and Claire’s chapter that leaves little room to linger on the issue. Not only do we find an open diary revealing our villainous mastermind’s innermost thoughts, there’s a manifesto lying about in her lair titled ‘Hatred of (character X)’ followed by reasons why she hates (character X). Worse, in an attempt to explain the complexities of the plot at the last minute, developer Capcom has taken to heavy-handed exposition via notes and additional reading material.
